Harry Campbell, PA Director of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Monday provided an update on CBF-PA’s efforts to have the lower Susquehanna River designated as impaired for aquatic life by the Department of Environmental Protection. His update said--
This past week, we delivered 6,204 signatures to the Acting Secretary of the DEP. Thank you for your incredible support!

These signatures, which far surpasses our goal of 5,000, will speak volumes to declaring the Lower Susquehanna as impaired. We will continue telling DEP how diseased and dying smallmouth bass have been found in the river since 2005. The state of the smallmouth bass fishery testifies to the devastating impact of pollution. We know when smallmouth bass are diseased, weakened, or otherwise stressed, things aren't right.
An impaired listing for the Lower Susquehanna would allow the restoration process to begin in earnest, designating the river for additional study and new levels of investment in restoration.
