PA Resources Council Launches Western PA Household Chemical Collection Events May 7

The PA Resources Council will hold the first of 6 Household Chemical Collection events in Western PA on May 7 at the swimming pool area of North Park in Allegheny County.
Other events will be held—
-- May 21 – Cambria County: Concurrent Technologies Corporation;
-- July 9 – Washington County: Washington County Fairgrounds;
-- August 13 – Allegheny County: Boyce Park;
-- September 17 – Allegheny County: South Park; and
-- October 8 – Beaver County: Bradys Run Park.
Household chemicals include items such as cleaners, paints, stains and varnishes, batteries, motor oil, pesticides and other products containing potentially hazardous chemicals.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, an average home can easily accumulate 100 pounds of these products.
The cost to safely dispose of materials at all collections will be $3/gallon, cash only.
Since 2003, event organizers have collected and safely disposed of more than 4.5 million pounds of chemicals from 45,000+ households during 80+ drive-thru collections held in nine counties.
A certified contractor processes the hazardous wastes for proper disposal, and materials may be recycled, incinerated or safely buried in special landfills.
For information and a complete list of items accepted, visit PRC’s Household Chemical Collection Events webpage or call 412-488-7452.
